FRIDAY UP N' UP PRESENTS "DRIPZ"

Matthew Aaron Clive "Dripz" is an artist, producer, founder of author, and a Christian signed to Bountiful Records the label he founded. He is the son of musician. He was born in Etobicoke, ON, raised in Church of The Holy Spirit, Anglican Church. Dripz began rapping at the age of 13 rapping to over Eminem and 2pac songs. His teenage life was full of angst and he rebelled against authority and got in trouble with the law. Not having a steady father figure led Dripz to idolize the gangsta rap lifestyle. Eventually God called Dripz out of the wordly life of drug dealing and abuse. Dripz decided he would become a Christian rapper but it was a struggle to completely stop sinning. Dripz has never felt completely accepted by religious people but always knew God loved him. After much hardship and struggle Dripz has finally been allowed the opportunity to release his music and start his record label. Dripz used to be a wordly reference but now symbolizes the blood of Jesus that drips over and cleansed Dripz life, professionally and personally. Since accepting his call he is working to spread the word of God through his music. He is currently working on new mixtape #JESUSWAG which is due to drop at the end of June. This mixtape is set to blaze the path for a slew of mixtapes and songs and a tour around the world spreading the Gospel of Christ. He plans to make his record label Bountiful Records an international label that has no boundaries bringing people all over the world for the glory of God.

WIT JOINS COLLISION RECORDS AS AN A&R

Collision Records announced a new edition to the Collision Records family! Elvin “Wit” Shahbazian will now be serving as A&R for music at Collision. Wit will be heavily involved with production and artistic development on future Collision Records projects. Collision was privileged to have Wit produce “Mirage” from Swoope’s debut album “Wake Up”. And they are looking forward to having Wit be a part of what God is doing at Collision Records. I feel that Collision is building a foundation and are making smart moves. They have Christon Gray and Swoope already signed to the label, now they add a great producer to the list. A man who has produced one of the hottest tracks out right now, and not only that but a man that can executive produce the next albums that come out from the label. Why build a roster full of artists when your artists still have to seek producers to work with. They are saving time, money, and talent with an in house producer/A&R. Bold but Smart move by Collision Records!

FRIDAY UP N' UP PRESENTS ALEX "TRE" EDWARDS

At age 14, Alex “Tre” Edwards is an unsigned music artist with a great, new sound and vibe. Born into a family of music, Alex “Tre” Edwards has been making music his whole life. Tre records in his loft room as of now and mixes his music himself. He has designed his website, album covers, facebook page, and twitter. Recently joining the Christian hip hop music scene in 2011, he wants to make a change in music to glorify the Lord. He has been blessed with a talent to write, rap, sing, design, create, and produce on his own. He continues to deliver new music to the world and his fan base is growing larger every day. His inspirations go from Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Swoope, Trip Lee, KB, and Flame. Tre has been featured on NewH2O.com with his debut single, Awesome. Tre is an independent artist that is still young and has so much room to grow, but in order to do so he need to continue taking his calling seriously and with importance. Being so young and already having 2 complete tapes under his belt, he definitely has an advantage against other cats that are thinking about stepping in to the Christian Hip-Hop scene.

COLE BROWN - ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME

Cole Brown provides a brief overview of the first chapter of his book Lies Hip Hop Told Me, releasing July 2, 2012. In Lies Hip Hop Told Me Cole Brown examines 14 slogans from the music he loves, in light of the teachings of the God he loves. Interacting with rap lyrics, Christian Scripture, history and other data, Brown addresses such famous slogans as “Only God Can Judge Me,” “Christianity is the White Man’s Religion,” and “Bi***es Ain’t S**t.” Brown is the founding pastor of Emmaus Church in Portland, Oregon where he has served for six years. He previously worked as an A&R for legendary Hip Hop producer Teddy Riley (Heavy D, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg). It is his personal identification with Hip Hop music and culture that makes his critique of it unique. “I did not write this book to move people away from Hip Hop culture,” Brown explains, “but to move people toward redeeming what is broken within it.

LECRAE STOPS BY THE COMPLEX OFFICES FOR AN INTERVIEW

Here is Part of the Interview Lecrae had with Complex Magazine:
Lecrae Moore wants to make two things clear: He’s a man of God. And he's hip-hop. “If I was a plumber, I wouldn’t say, ‘I’m a Christian plumber,’” said the Houston-born rapper during a recent stop by the Complex offices. “I’m going to say I’m a hip-hop artist. You're going be able to tell the filter that my art goes through by listening to the music.”Apparently folks like what they hear. His latest mixtape Church Clothes, hosted by Don Cannon, has been downloaded more than 200,000 times so far. He’ll release his debut album Gravity this fall, before going on a tour he calls "Unashamed." And if the idea of "gospel rap" leaves you uninspired, know this: you won't be ashamed to listen to it. “Not to say that my music is going to be me reading the Bible and reading you a scripture on every song,” he says. “It’s just saying that this is who I am in the same way that other rappers have their faith and they believe what they believe. You still hear them as an artist articulating what they want to articulate.” Lacrae spoke about the wild life he lived before turning to God, how not all church kids are squares, and potential collabs with Lupe Fiasco and Kendrick Lamar.

ARE CHRISTIAN RAPPERS LAZY?

Okay I know what you're thinking, what gives me the right to make a statement like that? Well a lot of folks don't like when you compare the work ethic of secular rappers to christian rappers they say that I shouldn't be doing so. But the truth in the matter is that new believers and non believers constantly compare christian rappers to secular rappers and one thing they might notice is the fact that releases and news are kind of slower when it comes to the christian hip hop world.
