REACTION TO NO MALICE'S 'JUNE' & 'UNFORGETTABLE"

Now before we start to get too deep with this and the article starts to take a course that shouldn’t be taken (such as judging an individual’s faith). Now that is out of the way let’s begin to speak on my opinion on both of these songs ‘June’ and ‘Unforgettable’ and the video for ‘June’. If this editorial reaches the eyes of Gene Thorton I would like to inform him that I am a big fan of his music and when I used to listen to secular hip-hop I would bump a lot of Clipse and they were one of my first exposures to the genre. Since writing his life-changing book Gene Thorton has revealed news about his faith and went on to change his stage name from Malice to No Malice.

FRIDAY UP N' UP PRESENTS CHARLES "LOGICAL" JONES

Logical (Charles Jones) was born and raised in West Philadelphia. Though he never picked up a mic until his late teens, like many others; Hip-Hop was his first love. Despite being raised by his loving Grandmother, Charles eventually adapted some of the negative habits that are common in urban living. A near fatal car accident in 2001, forced Charles to sit down and really examine his life. Unable to even walk without assistance, the things of this world quickly lost their value.
Shortly after his recovery, one of Charles’ cousins got saved at a Gospel Hip-Hop concert. He was immediately impacted by the change he seen take place in the life of his cousin, and began to desire similar change. After several months of disregarding invitations to a youth ministry, he eventually accepted. For seven months, he argued and debated the accuracy of scripture, and the value of faith. Shocked by the love he received while speaking words of hate, he began to finally listen to the messages for the first time. Rocked by a God who would die to save a group of misfits, Charles accepted Christ September 23, 2002.Though he remains a work in progress, Logical is now focused on spreading the Kingdom of God. He aims to reach those:
Whom have not yet accepted the Gospel, Caught up in false doctrines, Whom have lost sight of the Gospel.

He was born in Etobicoke, ON, raised in Church of The Holy Spirit, Anglican Church. Dripz began rapping at the age of 13 rapping to over Eminem and 2pac songs. His teenage life was full of angst and he rebelled against authority and got in trouble with the law. Not having a steady father figure led Dripz to idolize the gangsta rap lifestyle. Eventually God called Dripz out of the wordly life of drug dealing and abuse. Dripz decided he would become a Christian rapper but it was a struggle to completely stop sinning. Dripz has never felt completely accepted by religious people but always knew God loved him. After much hardship and struggle Dripz has finally been allowed the opportunity to release his music and start his record label. Dripz used to be a wordly reference but now symbolizes the blood of Jesus that drips over and cleansed Dripz life, professionally and personally. Since accepting his call he is working to spread the word of God through his music. He is currently working on new mixtape #JESUSWAG which is due to drop at the end of June. This mixtape is set to blaze the path for a slew of mixtapes and songs and a tour around the world spreading the Gospel of Christ. He plans to make his record label Bountiful Records an international label that has no boundaries bringing people all over the world for the glory of God.

WIT JOINS COLLISION RECORDS AS AN A&R

Collision Records announced a new edition to the Collision Records family! Elvin “Wit” Shahbazian will now be serving as A&R for music at Collision. Wit will be heavily involved with production and artistic development on future Collision Records projects. Collision was privileged to have Wit produce “Mirage” from Swoope’s debut album “Wake Up”. And they are looking forward to having Wit be a part of what God is doing at Collision Records. I feel that Collision is building a foundation and are making smart moves. They have Christon Gray and Swoope already signed to the label, now they add a great producer to the list. A man who has produced one of the hottest tracks out right now, and not only that but a man that can executive produce the next albums that come out from the label. Why build a roster full of artists when your artists still have to seek producers to work with. They are saving time, money, and talent with an in house producer/A&R. Bold but Smart move by Collision Records!

At age 14, Alex “Tre” Edwards is an unsigned music artist with a great, new sound and vibe. Born into a family of music, Alex “Tre” Edwards has been making music his whole life. Tre records in his loft room as of now and mixes his music himself. He has designed his website, album covers, facebook page, and twitter. Recently joining the Christian hip hop music scene in 2011, he wants to make a change in music to glorify the Lord. He has been blessed with a talent to write, rap, sing, design, create, and produce on his own. He continues to deliver new music to the world and his fan base is growing larger every day. His inspirations go from Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Swoope, Trip Lee, KB, and Flame. Tre has been featured on NewH2O.com with his debut single, Awesome. Tre is an independent artist that is still young and has so much room to grow, but in order to do so he need to continue taking his calling seriously and with importance. Being so young and already having 2 complete tapes under his belt, he definitely has an advantage against other cats that are thinking about stepping in to the Christian Hip-Hop scene.

COLE BROWN - ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME

Cole Brown provides a brief overview of the first chapter of his book Lies Hip Hop Told Me, releasing July 2, 2012. In Lies Hip Hop Told Me Cole Brown examines 14 slogans from the music he loves, in light of the teachings of the God he loves. Interacting with rap lyrics, Christian Scripture, history and other data, Brown addresses such famous slogans as “Only God Can Judge Me,” “Christianity is the White Man’s Religion,” and “Bi***es Ain’t S**t.” Brown is the founding pastor of Emmaus Church in Portland, Oregon where he has served for six years. He previously worked as an A&R for legendary Hip Hop producer Teddy Riley (Heavy D, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg). It is his personal identification with Hip Hop music and culture that makes his critique of it unique. “I did not write this book to move people away from Hip Hop culture,” Brown explains, “but to move people toward redeeming what is broken within it.

LECRAE STOPS BY THE COMPLEX OFFICES FOR AN INTERVIEW

Here is Part of the Interview Lecrae had with Complex Magazine:
Lecrae Moore wants to make two things clear: He’s a man of God. And he's hip-hop. “If I was a plumber, I wouldn’t say, ‘I’m a Christian plumber,’” said the Houston-born rapper during a recent stop by the Complex offices. “I’m going to say I’m a hip-hop artist. You're going be able to tell the filter that my art goes through by listening to the music.”Apparently folks like what they hear. His latest mixtape Church Clothes, hosted by Don Cannon, has been downloaded more than 200,000 times so far. He’ll release his debut album Gravity this fall, before going on a tour he calls "Unashamed." And if the idea of "gospel rap" leaves you uninspired, know this: you won't be ashamed to listen to it. “Not to say that my music is going to be me reading the Bible and reading you a scripture on every song,” he says. “It’s just saying that this is who I am in the same way that other rappers have their faith and they believe what they believe. You still hear them as an artist articulating what they want to articulate.” Lacrae spoke about the wild life he lived before turning to God, how not all church kids are squares, and potential collabs with Lupe Fiasco and Kendrick Lamar.

ARE CHRISTIAN RAPPERS LAZY?

Okay I know what you're thinking, what gives me the right to make a statement like that? Well a lot of folks don't like when you compare the work ethic of secular rappers to christian rappers they say that I shouldn't be doing so. But the truth in the matter is that new believers and non believers constantly compare christian rappers to secular rappers and one thing they might notice is the fact that releases and news are kind of slower when it comes to the christian hip hop world. LECRAE SET TO APPEAR ON THISIS50.COM

Seems like Lecrae is branching out and continuing to extend his impact in Hip-Hop world, now by doing an interview with THISIS50.com. Now all we have is a picture and we are not quite sure what time this video will air if there will be a video or if this is even an interview. But what we do know is that Lecrae is staying true to his roots and honoring the Lord in every way possible. Lately people have been saying that he is shining away from his old self which we fell in love with in "Jesus Muzik"and he has been affiliating himself too much with the secular Hip-Hop world and even some are claiming he is no longer a christian because of his Hardknocktv interviews (PT.1 & PT.2). Now in my opinion I disagree, I feel that Lecrae has not shined away from the most important message of all and that is that Jesus Christ is king and the only way to clean your trail of sin and be forgiven and changed is through Jesus. Now I do think that music is a touchy topic and in regards to labels at the end of the day it's his choice whether he be called an artist or a christian artist. But at least his music still reflects his love and desire to preach the Gospel, so therefore I will continue to support CRAYOLA and his movement so go pick up #ChurchClothes if you still havent.

GOWE - I WONDER FT. ERIN KIM

Ever since I discovered that I was adopted (at the age of 18), I've always wanted to write a song that captured my experience and gratitude toward my biological mother.  After performing this song for the first time at Kollaboration Seattle I was able to partner with key individuals to turn the song into a music video. My hope is that this will one day reach my biological mother so that I could meet her. In a way, I feel like this is symbolically my 'message in a bottle' that I am casting into the ocean. Any help in sharing the video via Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr/Myspace with your friends & family would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the making of this video and for everyone who has helped me share this. God is good and I am truly blessed!

JIN - FLAVOR FEST 2012: INTERNATIONAL ARTIST & CONFERENCE SPEAKER

Flavor Fest 2012 - Tampa, FL October 4th-7th, 2012 @ Crossover Church

"Flavor Fest 12 is our 12th annual conference. Many conferences and "ministry trends" never last that long. We're still here. The Fest is so much more than just another conference or a passing trend. For more than a decade many young, innovative leaders have been growing and maturing. Many have been saying "We Got Next..." We've been praying and planning about how the church could look and how it biblically should look. Many of us have now stepped into lead positions in our churches and ministries and it's a new day for the urban, multi-ethnic church as "Next is Now". But, how will we steward we have been given? What will change? What needs to stay the same? These are the things we'll discuss, dialog and wrestle with at Flavor Fest 12 as we ask God to equip us to LEAD by his spirit. We can't wait to see what he's going to do October 4th - 7th. We pray you can come and grow with us... and LEAD at FF 12 as "Next is Now!'"

WASHINGTON PROJECTS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM 'SPACE, TIME, CONTINUUM

The Washington Projects, made up of brother/sister duo Jekob and Rachael Washington, is set to release their new studio remix album Space, Time, Continuum on May 22, 2012. Releasing on Save The City Records/Provident Distribution, the project was produced by Flatline Remix (Lecrae, Trip Lee, Newsboys).

Formerly two-thirds of the trio SoulJahz, The Washington Projects musical style of insightful hip-hop, R&B, old school funk and pure soul pop is heard to the core onSpace, Time, Continuum, which are eleven remixed songs chosen from their previous two album releases, Commanders of the Resistance and Light Up The Dark. The full CD of Light Up The Dark, which was never released in physical retail stores, will be included with Space, Time, Continuum as a special bonus disc.

"The Washington Projects is one of the most innovative sounds in Christian music today," exclaims Derek Hoiem, Owner and CEO of Save The City Records. "Many people think that Christian music is a knock off of what's happening in secular music but The Washington Projects deliver something that is totally original that could compete on any secular music chart. What's different, however, is their positive, gospel-based message. The rise of the popularity of Christian hip-hop has shown that people are hungry for positive alternatives to what's happening in the mainstream music marketplace, and The Washington Projects are here with an alternative that avid music listeners will love."

In addition to the upcoming album release of Space, Time, Continuum, Jekob Washington will release his first solo project with Save The City Records in late 2012. His first radio single, “Love Is All,” is currently climbing up Billboard's Christian CHR chart and is currently at No. 18, making this Save The City Records’ first Top 20 radio single.

CHANNEL PREPS NEW ALBUM 'SOUNDS OF A DREAMER'

The Red Ink Army is excited to announce the release of Channel's album "Sounds of a Dreamer".
The Album is set to release on June 12th 2012 and this album's type of sound is aggressively Jesus. The type of music to get you inspired to chase your dreams and also advise the scriptures and continuing to stay within God's presence. Sounds like the scope is where we all want to be, the peak of motivation that we need to chase and make happen God's plans on our lives.  The project is reminiscent of his first breakout album 'Dare 2 Be Great' that was highly regarded by artists such as Lecrae and Trip Lee. It includes production from Halo of Airtight Productions (KB, Dillon Chase), Tony Stone (Lecrae,Trip Lee), DeeOnTheTrack (Json), Marv4MoBeats (R-Swift, Pro, Canton Jones), Prayer Life Media, and up and comer ChrysBeats.

Da' T.R.U.T.H Expresses Feelings of Christian Label through Facebook

Monday evening Xist Music artist Da' T.R.U.T.H. initiated some lively discussion on his public Facebook page when he

made a post about artists and their choice to use (or not use) the label "Christian artist."

He asked "Question: There has been a great deal of discussion surrounding this issue as of late. From your perspective how important is it for Christian artist to use the Christian label? I.e. Christian (gospel) rapper..."

Da' T.R.U.T.H. made a very good case for why he believes the label is appropriate and should not necessarily be shied away from. He also made it clear that his post was not directed at anyone, but is "based on the conversation and questions whirling around amongst the body right now."
Check out what he had to say...
I believe:
1.There is no prescriptive law that requires us to label ourselves as Christian artist. Therefore, to not do it is not a sin in anyway. However, the examples in scripture and throughout church history help to guide us in understanding the heart beat of God in these matters.
2. Acts 11 is the very first time we see the word Christian used. The disciples were Categorized as Christian because they were followers of Jesus Christ. It was common in Jewish culture to be identified based on the rabbi that you were discipled by. Sadly, the disciples were despised and thereby persecuted because of their strong affiliation with Christ. If you wanted to avoid persecution, all you had to do was throw off the label. The Christian label not only associated the disciples with Christ but also with the broader context of believers all over the world.
 3. It's true, if you are a plumber or technician, the Christian label is unnecessary. However, those occupations are neutral but Christ centered music is not. If the music that we produce specifically focuses in on Jesus Christ than it is undoubtedly Christian music and we are Christian artist. The word Christian in this context serves as an adjective and adjectives describe the word that follows. Beyond that, there are occupations where labels are important I.e. Doctors and law enforcement. We don't call doctors by their first name, we refer to them as doctor... And cops as officer... This is a clear example of labels being used to distinguish.
4.Again, it is not sin but we must check out motives to see if we are throwing the Christian label overboard to escape persecution whether physical or social. It is easy for us to us to underestimate what we will do in order to be accepted by the world. It's easy to be unashamed( not a diss) and bold amongst believers but we need that boldness the most when we are amongst the people who don't know him. Acts 4 Jesus told us that the world would hate us, let's not try to get around it. Mk 10
 5. I differentiate between artist that are Christian (PJ Morton) and Christian artist. Both are pleasing to God in my estimation. If you are Christian artist, don't be ashamed (Rom 1:16). It was somebody else's boldness that got us to where we are. Be that for someone else!!!

Lecrae HARDKNOCKTV Interview

Lecrae sits down with Hard Knock TV's Nick Huff Barili for an in-depth interview. Lecrae starts the interview off by addressing being labeled Christian hip hop instead of just a hip hop artist and preconceptions people have about him because he raps about Jesus. The interview continues with him explaining the meaning behind the track Chase That and after performs a verse from it. When asked who he is currently listening to he mentions Lupe, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole and Big K.R.I.T saying he appreciated rappers with substance because radio these days just has people feeling like life is just about the club (co-sign that statement!!!). Lecrae goes on about not having positive male role models growing up and now wanting to be that person for others as he is working with youth and kids in prison. Part 1 of this interview ends with Lecrae talking about Jeremy Lin who listens to him before the game.

They are just getting started make sure you tune in this Friday to see part 2 of the conversation with Lecrae. And if you haven't done so make sure you download his latest mixtape Church Clothes: http://www.datpiff.com/Lecrae-Church-Clothes-mixtape.348497.html
